Zelenskyy and Belgium Collaborate on New Drone Deal

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that efforts are underway to finalize the text of a 'drone deal' with Belgium. The announcement followed a meeting with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot in Kyiv. The discussions covered various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, reflecting the ongoing partnership between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy highlighted Belgium's significant contributions to enhancing Ukraine's combat aviation capabilities. He expressed gratitude for Brussels' continued support and optimism about implementing their discussions to bolster protection against Russian strikes. Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is prepared to share its experience and expertise with its partners, emphasizing the importance of those who have supported Ukraine since the conflict began.

The Ukrainian President also thanked Belgium for its substantial financial support, amounting to over £1.1 billion ($1.3 billion) this year, and acknowledged its solidarity with Kyiv and support for Ukraine's EU membership aspirations. Prevot's meeting with acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha took place in a bomb shelter due to an air alert in Kyiv. Sybiha expressed gratitude for Belgium's comprehensive support in military, energy, humanitarian, and financial areas, which has exceeded £4.6 billion since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The collaboration on the 'Drone Deal' is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to enhance its security and defense capabilities. Zelenskyy revealed earlier this month that Ukraine has already signed similar agreements with nine countries, with an additional 15 under development.
