Ankara: US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have agreed to meet during this week's United Nations General Assembly sessions in New York, as revealed by the Ukrainian leader.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy made the announcement via a statement on Telegram, expressing optimism that the meeting could potentially lead to significant diplomatic progress in resolving the ongoing Ukraine conflict. "We just spoke with President Trump. An important conversation, and many things were discussed. We have arranged a meeting in New York, and this meeting can change a lot," Zelenskyy stated.

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude towards Trump for the recent visit to Kyiv by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The discussions during the visit reportedly covered substantive issues and allowed the US representatives to witness the situation in Ukraine firsthand. "There are ideas on de-escalation steps and fundamental security issues - energy, food, and protection of people's lives," Zelenskyy noted.

Additionally, Zelenskyy thanked Trump for signing legislation sponsored by the late US Senator Lindsey Graham, which approved new sanctions on Russia, a move seen as a critical step in addressing the Ukraine situation.
