Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Tuesday the formation of an international Energy Coalition to support Ukraine’s energy sector and ensure energy security amid Russian strikes. Speaking in Kyiv during a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Wiel, Zelenskyy said the first meeting will take place online in the coming days.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy stated that the coalition was organized in response to recent attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, logistics, water, and gas supplies. The aim is to bolster the country’s energy security and infrastructure while mobilizing financial resources for potential electricity imports. He emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s connection to the European energy network, which provides capabilities for energy imports, though financial support may be necessary.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Netherlands for announcing a £25 million ($29 million) energy aid package. He also revealed ongoing discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to secure additional power generation equipment.

Following his visit to Norway, the Ukrainian leader disclosed that his country is set to receive approximately $150 million for winter gas purchases, marking the third energy support package from Oslo this year. Furthermore, German Minister of Economics and Energy Katharina Reiche announced that Germany’s total contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund would reach £450 million.
