Oleshky:Kyiv Ukrainian citizens evacuated from the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky have crossed into Ukraine's Chernihiv region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Zelenskyy stated on the US social media platform X that those in need of evacuation had been successfully removed from Oleshky and its surrounding communities. He expressed hope for continued humanitarian access and assured that all evacuees would receive necessary assistance. He urged government agencies and regional and local authorities to support the evacuees in their adaptation process.

Zelenskyy noted that the humanitarian operation was conducted amid a ceasefire in the Kherson sector, which allowed for the clearing of mines from roads leading to Oleshky and the delivery of aid. He emphasized the importance of international attention in facilitating rescues and called for further steps toward de-escalation and real progress toward peace, thanking all parties involved in the operation.

The ceasefire, brokered by US first lady Melania Trump between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, took effect on Tuesday. It was established to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians. The ceasefire is scheduled to end at 10.59 pm local time (2059GMT) on Sunday.
