Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, presented several promising ideas to advance peace talks in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. This announcement followed discussions held over the weekend.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed optimism about the proposals during a briefing with journalists, as reported by Ukrainian media outlets including Ukrinform and Novyny Live. While acknowledging the potential of these ideas, Zelenskyy admitted uncertainty about their implementation.

The talks in Kyiv with Witkoff and Kushner marked the first visit by these envoys to Ukraine, following their prior discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Zelenskyy emphasized that the visit underscored Ukraine's strengthened battlefield stance and improved negotiating position.

Addressing recent overnight strikes on Ukraine, Zelenskyy highlighted the necessity for 'ballistic packages' from the US, indicating that Washington is aware of Ukraine's detailed needs. He expressed hope for progress at an upcoming meeting with Trump, scheduled for late September.
