Paris: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday reiterated the importance of strengthening his country, particularly its air defenses, during talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy stated on US social media company X that he and Macron had a 'productive' meeting, discussing priorities ahead of the Anti-Ballistic Coalition and Coalition of the Willing meetings, alongside bilateral cooperation. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to fortify Ukraine, enhance air defenses, and boost Europe's anti-ballistic capabilities.

Zelenskyy highlighted France's capabilities and advanced technologies, expressing Kyiv's intention to collaborate with allies on these issues. He noted that bilateral ties had reached a 'truly strategic level', attributing this largely to Macron's personal efforts. As a gesture of appreciation, Zelenskyy awarded Macron the Order of Freedom, recognizing him as a true friend of Ukraine.

The Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris, set to occur later Monday, is expected to feature new announcements regarding military capabilities, industrial cooperation, and measures against Russia's shadow fleet. This initiative, involving 37 countries and launched in March 2025 by the UK and France, aims to support a potential peace agreement in Ukraine.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu's participation marks Moldova's first involvement in a coalition meeting, adding significance to the gathering.
