Warsaw: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Poland on Thursday after attending a summit of the European Council in Brussels earlier in the day. State news agency Ukrinform said the Ukrainian president will have a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, the first since the latter assumed office in August.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy and Nawrocki are scheduled to hold a face-to-face meeting, followed by talks between their respective delegations, as indicated by a press program on the Polish president's website. The leaders will also engage in a session with media representatives.

On Sunday, Polish presidential spokesman Rafal Leskiewicz mentioned on the social media platform X that Warsaw had proposed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Nawrocki on December 19, with the visit's details being finalized. Leskiewicz noted that the discussions would focus on security, economic, and historical matters.

Polish state news agency PAP reported, citing government spokesman Adam Szlapka, that Zelenskyy might also meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, contingent on the duration of the European Council meeting. Earlier on Thursday, Zelenskyy attended the summit in Brussels, urging European leaders to consider using frozen Russian assets worth £210 billion ($246 billion) as collateral for a loan to Ukraine. He emphasized the moral justification of employing these assets in defense against Russian aggression, a move Russia has condemned as "outright theft" with threats of severe retaliation.
