Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his country's proposal for substantial agreements on drones and arms procurement with the United States, urging for a more vigorous execution of initiatives to bolster Kyiv's defense capabilities.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy's statement on the US social media platform X followed a series of overnight airstrikes on Ukraine, during which he emphasized that Russia continues its offensive actions despite international appeals for peace, including those from the US. He mentioned that Kyiv has accepted all proposals aimed at peace, but noted that these efforts appear to be disregarded by Russia.
Zelenskyy highlighted the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a joint initiative by the US and NATO to expedite the provision of weapons and equipment essential for fortifying Ukraine's defense. He also mentioned the significance of co-production and the finalization of security guarantees as part of these efforts.
The Ukrainian leader stressed the importance of the proposed drone and arms agreements with the United States, advocating for decisive measures that could pressure Russia into engaging in diplomatic efforts. His remarks coincided with claims by Kyiv that its air defense systems successfully intercepted 71 out of 86 drones launched by Russia overnight.
The targeted regions during the overnight strikes included the Ukrainian capital and other areas such as Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Dnipropetrovsk. Zelenskyy reported that two individuals sustained injuries in Pavlohrad, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
