Abu dhabi: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said an energy ceasefire was discussed during trilateral peace talks in the United Arab Emirates last week, after Donald Trump said Russia's Vladimir Putin agreed to halt strikes for a week.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy reacted to US President Trump's remarks during a meeting where Trump claimed he 'personally asked' Russian President Putin not to fire on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities amid extreme winter conditions. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of power supply as a foundation of life, expressing gratitude for the efforts of international partners in protecting lives.
Zelenskyy noted that discussions on the energy ceasefire took place in the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the expectation that the agreements would be implemented. He underscored that de-escalation steps are crucial for achieving tangible progress toward ending the war. In a subsequent video address, Zelenskyy remarked that the situation in the coming days would reveal the current state of affairs.
The peace talks involved Russia, Ukraine, and the US, with consultations held over two days in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. Another round of trilateral peace talks is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, again in Abu Dhabi. Russian authorities have not yet commented on the energy ceasefire discussions.
