10,000 Properties Impacted by Record Floods in New South Wales

Sydney: Australian authorities announced that 10,000 properties have sustained damage due to record flooding in New South Wales (NSW), impacting a total of 50,000 people. The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has initiated damage assessments as conditions have begun to ease. According to Anadolu Agency, the SES reported that while floodwaters are starting to subside in certain locations, they continue to rise in others as water flows downstream. Emergency warnings remain in effect in several areas, including Taree, Kempsey, and Port Macquarie. NSW SES Chief Superintendent Paul McQueen emphasized that it remains a dangerous situation, with significant impacts on infrastructure and properties likely. He stated that it is not possible for residents to return to their homes until the water subsides further, ensuring safe access to their properties and communities. The death toll from the floods in NSW increased to five on Friday, following the confirmation of another man's death after he was reported missing o n Wednesday. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese assured that the government is collaborating with state and local authorities to provide necessary support during this crisis and through the recovery process. He highlighted that conditions remain critical, with flood and evacuation warnings still in place. In the affected regions, thousands are experiencing power outages and remain isolated. The weather agency has also warned of strong winds expected on Monday and Tuesday, as reported by ABC News.
