Ankara: The Sudan Doctors Network has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of killing 27 people in an attack on villages in the Al-Murra area in western Bara within Sudan's North Kordofan State.

According to Anadolu Agency, the non-governmental network reported that an RSF force conducted an armed assault on the villages on Thursday, coinciding with the second day of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. The attack resulted in the deaths of several elderly residents and was characterized as a targeted crime against unarmed civilians in areas lacking any military presence.

The network highlighted that such attacks violate international humanitarian law and conventions designed to protect civilians. It further warned that these ongoing assaults are exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region, displacing more families from their homes.

The organization called on the international community and human rights entities to denounce these violations and urged for immediate action to protect civilians. They emphasized the need for pressure on RSF leaders to cease attacks on residential areas.

There has been no response or comment from the RSF regarding these allegations. The RSF currently controls all five states in the western Darfur region, except for parts of North Darfur, which remain under army control. Meanwhile, the army holds the majority of the remaining 13 states, including the capital, Khartoum.

The ongoing conflict between the army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of thousands and displaced millions, further destabilizing the region.
