Xinjiang: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck northwestern China on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

According to Anadolu Agency, the quake occurred at 5:44 am local time (2144GMT Friday), about 71 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Shihezi in the Xinjiang region, as reported by the USGS. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the earthquake.
