Voronezh: At least five people were killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on the Russian city of Voronezh, regional Governor Alexander Gusev said Monday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Gusev mentioned in a statement on Telegram that dozens more were injured in the attack, which also caused damage to industrial facilities at one of the city’s enterprises. The facades and windows of several apartment buildings, as well as multiple vehicles, sustained damage, he noted. Gusev extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
In response to the incident, the governor announced that a missile threat alert in the region had been lifted and cautioned against sharing photos or videos of the aftermath online, especially those that could disclose locations. As a precautionary measure, Russian aviation authorities imposed temporary flight restrictions at airports in Bugulma, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, and Cheboksary in the Tatarstan region due to a Ukrainian air raid.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that its forces had targeted multiple Russian military and infrastructure sites, including a space communications center in the Moscow region, drone operator training facilities, and logistics infrastructure. They also claimed to have attacked command posts and other military positions in areas under Russian control, as well as infrastructure at the port of Kavkaz in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
The Russian Defense Ministry responded by stating that its air defense systems had intercepted 12 guided aerial bombs and 734 Ukrainian drones over the past 24 hours. Furthermore, Russian forces targeted locations used for assembling and storing long-range Ukrainian drones and continued offensive operations in several areas, including around the town of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine.
Anadolu could not independently verify battlefield claims from either side. Both Ukraine and Russia frequently report strikes on each other’s territories while disputing details regarding damage and casualties.
