A total of 461 people contacted the 1480 Helpline for Cyber Safety during the second quarter of the year, a Ministry of Education press release says, adding that the majority of calls was about incidents of cybercrime. The 1480 Helpline aims to provide counseling and support services to children and teenagers, young adults, parents, teachers, and the wider society, regarding the safe, responsible and ethical use of the Internet and of digital technologies. From 1 April 2024 to 30 June 2024, a total of 461 people contacted the Helpline. The main reason for contacting the Helpline was related to incidents of cybercrime (72%), i.e. dealing with breach of privacy (hacking), financial fraud or identity theft, via social networks or email. A further 10% was about technical support, while 5.5% involved incidents of cyberbullying, 5.2% incidents of sextortion and 2.4% of the calls was related to data privacy complaints.
