Minsk: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Wednesday extended his congratulations to Donald J. Trump following his victory in the United States presidential election, marking his return to the White House as the 47th US president. In a statement released by the Belarusian presidency, Lukashenko expressed his warm wishes to Trump, acknowledging the “unprecedented struggle” that characterized the election.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lukashenko conveyed his hopes for Trump’s good health and for “well-aimed political decisions that will make America great again.” Trump’s victory was secured after he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris by obtaining enough Electoral College votes in the election held on Tuesday.
In the popular vote, Trump leads Harris by approximately 5 million votes, having garnered a total of 71 million votes. This victory makes Trump the second US president in history to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland, who served two separate terms in the late 19th century
, with President Benjamin Harrison’s term in between.
Trump, along with his running mate JD Vance, is set to be inaugurated in Washington D.C. on January 20.
