PARIS: French authorities have announced a ban on Palestinian flags at the upcoming football match between France and Israel, scheduled to take place this Thursday in a Parisian suburb. The decision comes in the wake of unrest at a recent match in the Netherlands, prompting officials to implement measures aimed at preventing political demonstrations during the game. According to Anadolu Agency, Paris prefect Laurent Nunez emphasized that only French and Israeli flags, along with messages supporting the respective teams, will be permitted within the stadium. Nunez stated, "Stadiums are no place for political messages - it's the law." To enforce this, security personnel at Stade de France will conduct thorough security searches and ID checks around the stadium in Saint-Denis, a suburb north of Paris. Spectators who refuse these checks will be denied entry. In addition to these measures, plainclothes police will patrol the stadium, and certain stands near the field will remain empty to enhance security. A spec ialized police team, RAID, has been assigned to ensure the safety of the Israeli football players during the match. Amidst these precautions, Israeli authorities have discouraged their citizens from attending the game. Reports have also surfaced about French President Emmanuel Macron's intention to be present at the match. This event occurs against the backdrop of ongoing military actions in Gaza, where Israel's offensive has reportedly resulted in over 43,000 fatalities and injuries to nearly 103,000 individuals, predominantly women and children.
