Bangkok: The Royal Thai Air Force has announced its decision to rename itself as the Royal Thai Air and Space Force, effective April 1. The announcement was made on Tuesday, detailing a strategic restructuring aimed at addressing space-related challenges and ensuring the protection of Thailand's national space interests. According to Anadolu Agency, Air Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, spokesperson for the Thai Air Force, confirmed the name change as part of a broader initiative to adapt to emerging space threats. The restructuring will include the establishment of a Coordination Center for National Interests in Air and Space, which will collaborate with both internal and external agencies. A draft law regarding these changes will undergo a thorough review process by the Defense Council, parliament, and the Constitutional Court. The full implementation of the restructuring is anticipated by 2028, following a royal endorsement and subsequent publication in the Royal Gazette. Additionally, Air Marshal Sornchaidee announced plans for the launch of two new satellites in 2025. These satellites are intended to replace the existing ones that are nearing the end of their operational lifespan by mid-2025.
