Palestinian Detainees Die in Israeli Custody Prompting Human Rights Concerns.

Gaza: Two Palestinian detainees from Gaza have died in Israeli custody, according to prisoners' affairs groups on Sunday. Mohammad Abdel Rahman Idrees, 35, passed away in Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, on Friday after being reported missing since August 25, 2024, stated a joint announcement by the Palestinian Commission of Detainees' Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoner Society, and the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association. According to Anadolu Agency, the second detainee was identified as Muaz Khaled Rayan, 31. Details about the location of his death were not disclosed. However, the statement revealed that Rayan, who had been suffering from complete paralysis before his arrest on October 21, 2024, died on November 2. The announcement also highlighted that at least 47 detainees have died in Israeli custody since October 7, 2023, citing the dire conditions, particularly for the sick and injured, as a cause for concern. The Israeli army has detained over 11,900 Palestinians since last October, as per Palestinian figures, excluding those arrested from the Gaza Strip, whose numbers are estimated to be in the thousands. Following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas in October last year, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of nearly 44,400 people, predominantly women and children, and injuring over 105,000. On November 21, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions during the conflict in Gaza.
