WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot engaged in a strategic dialogue on Tuesday, focusing on Syria's political transition and Lebanon's institutional rebuilding, as reported by the US State Department. The discussions underscored the collaborative efforts needed to address ongoing regional challenges and enhance stability.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conversation between Blinken and Barrot centered on recent developments in Syria, with an emphasis on assisting the Syrian populace in building a sustainable future. A statement from State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted Blinken's insistence on safeguarding civilians and minority groups in Syria. Blinken also called for global cooperation to locate missing individuals, including Austin Tice, a US citizen detained during the Bashar Assad regime.

The dialogue further explored the importance of a comprehensive, Syrian-led political transition and addressed the persistent threat posed by Daesh/ISIS in the region. The talks highlighted the need for international collaboration in these efforts.

In discussions on Lebanon, Blinken emphasized the critical need for the country to restore its governance through timely presidential elections. He acknowledged France's support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and stressed the necessity of coordinated international initiatives to aid in the reconstruction of Lebanon's institutions. Despite the significance of the meeting, France did not issue a corresponding statement detailing the conversation or its outcomes.
