Geneva: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) emphasized the critical importance of the Paris Agreement on Tuesday, following the decision by the United States to withdraw from the accord under President Donald Trump. The WMO highlighted that 2024 was the hottest year on record, underscoring the urgency of global climate action.

According to Anadolu Agency, WMO spokesperson Clare Nullis addressed a UN press briefing, stating that the necessity of the Paris Agreement is evident. Nullis noted that the year 2024 saw temperatures temporarily reach 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with an estimated overall increase of 1.15 degrees. These findings point to the pressing need for robust climate measures.

Nullis further emphasized the pivotal role of national governments in spearheading climate action efforts. The WMO's call to action comes at a time when global collaboration is crucial to addressing climate change challenges.
