Trkiye Aims to Become Global Hub for High-Tech Investments by 2025

Ankara: Trkiye is positioning itself as a global center for high-tech investments, with significant advancements anticipated across various sectors, including biotechnology and industrial robotics.

According to Anadolu Agency, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir highlighted the achievements of 2024, such as crewed space missions and the launch of the indigenous communications satellite, Turksat 6A. He emphasized Trkiye’s substantial growth in industrial production, surpassing other OECD countries over the past 22 years, and attracting nearly $7 billion in investments. Kacir announced an upcoming investment package exceeding $2 billion, aiming to enhance high-tech production and exports by 2025.

Trkiye’s strategy includes accelerating investments in electric vehicle technologies, solar cells, wind turbines, chip production, and more, through new initiatives. Kacir mentioned Chinese EV manufacturer BYD’s plans to invest in Trkiye for next-generation EV production, expected to commence in 2026. He underscored the importance of attracting global investments for research and development operations within the country, highlighting ongoing negotiations with companies like Chery.

Kacir also noted the success of the Turkish EV brand Togg, which leads its class in Trkiye, with a new model set for release this year. He stressed advancements in EV, battery, and autonomous vehicle technologies to boost Togg’s competitiveness, revealing that over 50,000 Togg cars were on the roads last year.

The minister discussed Trkiye’s growing satellite production capabilities, positioning it to compete globally in satellite technologies. Trkiye’s lunar program remains a priority, with plans for a domestic spacecraft to reach the moon. Kacir detailed the completion of hybrid rocket engine tests and the goal of a soft lunar landing following data collection from a satellite in lunar orbit.

Trkiye now hosts over 11,000 technoparks and more than 1,600 RD and design centers, boasting seven unicorns. Kacir expressed optimism about the emergence of more “Turcorns” with increased investment in tech startups. He emphasized continued support for SMEs and an employment protection program, ensuring no sector is left behind.

A provincial development program launched last year offers advanced investment incentives, with key areas identified through pre-feasibility studies. Kacir expressed confidence in the program’s potential to stimulate economic vitality across Trkiye’s provinces.

Finally, Kacir reiterated Trkiye’s commitment to supporting Syria, with new development plans in the southeastern region, including significant investments by 2028. He emphasized the importance of sharing Trkiye’s capabilities in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture with Syrian counterparts, reflecting Trkiye’s ongoing solidarity with Syria.
