Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has publicly denounced the Israeli government's actions in Jerusalem, describing them as "unacceptable" and cautioning against the "complete Judaization" of the city. Fidan, speaking to Palestinian Television, expressed concerns over efforts to erase the city's international, Muslim, and Christian identities in favor of a singular religious dominance.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan outlined Trkiye's commitment to preserving Jerusalem's multifaceted identity, emphasizing its symbolic significance to the Palestinian cause. He criticized Israel's continuous provocative actions in Jerusalem, which he claims are bolstered by external support. Fidan stated that Jerusalem has the potential to be a city of peace for the world's monotheistic religions but warned against Israel's attempts to eliminate Muslim and Christian symbols.
Fidan also addressed the issue of Palestinian displacement, rejecting any proposals for relocation, such as those suggested by former US President Donald Trump. He stressed the importance of a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, a stance supported by the majority of the international community, as reflected in a recent UN vote.
In discussing the Gaza ceasefire's future, Fidan expressed concerns over potential resumption of Israeli military operations, urging the international community to take a firm stance to isolate Israel diplomatically. He warned that failure to pressure Israel could further damage US credibility on the global stage and prolong the crisis.
Fidan pointed to the unwavering support Israel receives from the US and Western countries as a reason for the international community's failure to address Israeli actions. He described this support as a reflection of the "law of the jungle," where power often supersedes moral and legal progress.
Recalling Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's visit to Trkiye in 2024, Fidan highlighted the strong show of support from the Turkish parliament, emphasizing Trkiye's continued commitment to assisting the Palestinian people.
Fidan concluded with a warning that without a lasting solution, the conflict could escalate into a larger war. He urged for a two-state solution and stressed the need for political negotiations to ensure peace for both Israelis and Palestinians, cautioning against further territorial expansion by Israel. He called for global unity against oppression, encouraging the Palestinian people to remain hopeful with the support of the international community.
