Washington: More than one million federal employees have responded to an email requesting details of their work activities, as confirmed by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt. This initiative is part of the Trump administration's government downsizing efforts, introduced last week by Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

According to Anadolu Agency, the email required federal employees to list five work activities from the previous week. Despite the request, less than half of the nation's 2.3 million federal workforce complied. Leavitt, who participated in the initiative herself, mentioned, "It took me about a minute and a half to think of five things I did last week." She emphasized the necessity for federal workers to match the work pace of President Donald Trump, stating, "We have a country to save."

Several agencies, including the Justice Department, the FBI, and the Pentagon, advised employees to disregard Musk's request. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) later instructed agencies to handle the situation internally, leaving decisions to their respective departments. Leavitt advised federal workers to comply unless otherwise directed by their agencies.

Musk announced that non-respondents would be given "another chance" to comply but warned that failing to do so a second time could lead to termination.
