Ankara: Trkiye is poised to play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. During a joint news conference with Georgian counterpart Maka Botchorishvili in Ankara, Fidan emphasized Trkiye's essential position in attaining and maintaining peace, as well as its potential influence in establishing a ceasefire between the warring parties.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan outlined Ankara's efforts since the conflict began, highlighting that despite strategic and tactical initiatives, significant progress is yet to be achieved. Fidan noted a new dynamic in diplomatic efforts with the advent of the new US administration under President Donald Trump. He emphasized the importance of diplomatic contacts concerning ceasefire conditions, peace agreement details, and security guarantees.
In his briefing, Fidan mentioned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's engagement with global leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, to facilitate and sustain a ceasefire. He also confirmed ongoing dialogues with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US special envoy for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg, and various Ukrainian and European representatives.
Trkiye has consistently advocated for initiatives involving both sides to foster peace and has offered to host peace talks. Fidan reiterated Trkiye's commitment to supporting these efforts and underscored its readiness to aid in achieving a resolution to the conflict.
Strengthening Turkish-Georgian Relations
Fidan also addressed the significance of Turkish-Georgian relations, particularly in energy transportation, highlighting the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas Pipeline as key projects. He expressed satisfaction with Georgia's commitment to deepening bilateral ties and noted that Trkiye has been Georgia's leading trade partner for 16 years.
Efforts to bolster trade and investment, including the full operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, are underway. Military and defense cooperation was also discussed, with a focus on existing projects within NATO frameworks. Fidan reiterated support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, referencing the Abkhazia and South Ossetia conflicts, and expressed readiness to assist in the return of Ahiska Turks to Georgia.

Fidan highlighted ongoing projects involving Trkiye, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, aimed at enhancing regional prosperity and peace. He emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, particularly in energy and transportation, and expressed optimism for future collaborations.
Commemoration of the Khojaly Massacre
In remembrance of the Khojaly Massacre, Fidan commemorated those affected and underscored the continued impact of the tragedy on Azerbaijani communities. The massacre, which occurred in 1992 during the Armenian offensive in Khojaly, resulted in significant civilian casualties and injuries.
Syria and Regional Stability
Regarding Syria, Fidan stressed the need for an inclusive political transition that prevents separatism. He expressed hope that the recent National Dialogue Conference would benefit the Syrian people.
Concerns Over Israeli Actions
Fidan criticized Israel's regional actions, identifying them as major hindrances to peace and stability. He called for an end to Israeli expansionism and emphasized the importance of pursuing peace and justice in global conflicts, urging the international community to address all crises with equal urgency.
