Seoul: The sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warned of "renewing" the country's strategic deterrence following the arrival of the USS Carl Vinson at a South Korean naval base.

According to Anadolu Agency, the USS Carl Vinson, a Nimitz-class US aircraft carrier, docked at a key naval base in Busan, a southeastern city, on Sunday as part of Washington's efforts to strengthen extended deterrence against North Korean threats, according to the Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency.

Kim Yo Jong stated on Monday that if the US continues its military demonstrations against North Korea, the country will be compelled to enhance its strategic deterrence. The Korean Central News Agency reported this statement on Tuesday.

The statement from North Korea indicated plans to closely monitor these developments, warning that the ongoing deployment of US strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula has become a habit that negatively affects North Korea's security.

Pyongyang cautioned against testing North Korea's "will and ability," describing such actions as perilous. The country reiterated that its nuclear policy reflects concerns for national security amid present and future threats, underscoring the necessity of bolstering its nuclear forces.

This marks the first visit of the USS Carl Vinson to South Korea since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January. The nuclear-powered vessel last docked in South Korea in November 2023.
