Geneva: The World Health Organization's (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has highlighted the significant role of African leadership in various facets of global health. In a statement made on Tuesday, he emphasized the strong presence of African leaders in the field.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tedros expressed the WHO's dedication to nurturing future African global health leaders and enhancing the continent's scientific framework. He acknowledged the contributions of African leaders in scientific advancements during the COVID-19 pandemic, efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, and ongoing efforts to reform global health systems.

The WHO's commitment to collaboration with African institutions was underscored by Tedros, who mentioned partnerships with the African Medicines Agency, the mRNA Technology Transfer platform, and the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Tedros urged for increased collaboration to enhance investment in scientific institutions, strengthen regional partnerships, and translate research into actionable policies and practices. He concluded by emphasizing the collective potential to leverage science, leadership, and cooperation for a healthier and more peaceful Africa and the world.
