Gaza City: The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Tuesday that it will not engage in any administrative arrangements in the post-war Gaza Strip, contingent upon the establishment of a national consensus. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem emphasized the group's stance, stating that it is unnecessary for Hamas to be involved in Gaza's administrative arrangements and expressing their lack of interest in such involvement.
According to Anadolu Agency, Qassem underscored the necessity of these arrangements being formed with internal national consensus and affirmed that Hamas would not permit any external interference. He highlighted that these arrangements should facilitate the initiation of a reconstruction process aimed at rescuing the people of Gaza from the devastation caused by the Israeli conflict. Hamas assured that it would not hinder any consensus-driven arrangements that would lead to Gaza's reconstruction.
In December, Hamas agreed to an Egyptian proposal to establish a "community support committee" to oversee the post-war Gaza administration. Additionally, Egypt is preparing to host an emergency Arab summit to develop a unified Arab position on the Palestinian issue and propose an Arab alternative to the US plans concerning Gaza.
US President Donald Trump's proposal to take control of Gaza and transform it into a tourist destination has been met with widespread rejection from the Arab world and other nations, who argue it constitutes ethnic cleansing. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of nearly 48,400 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and left over 111,000 injured since October 2023. The violence was temporarily halted following a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement on January 19.
Humanitarian aid entry into Gaza was suspended by Israel on Sunday, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined to initiate discussions on the next phase of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
