China’s Lawmakers Gather in Beijing for Annual ‘Two Sessions’ Meeting

Beijing: China's top advisory body commenced the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Tuesday in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, more than 2,000 lawmakers have gathered at the Great Hall of the People for the annual 'Two Sessions,' also known as the lianghui meetings, as China's political calendar enters a critical phase. President Xi Jinping and high-ranking officials reportedly attended the meeting, where Wang Huning, the chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presented a report on the committee's past achievements.

Wang emphasized the importance of implementing the arrangements from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to enhance the consultative democracy mechanism and promote the construction of consultative democracy within the CPPCC. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held from October 16 to 22, 2022.

Another CPPCC member, Qiao Hong, highlighted the advancements in China's robotics industry, noting significant progress that has narrowed the gap to the international level. Qiao noted that China is capable of producing low-cost, high-performance robotics systems to support the country's industrial and agricultural sectors.

The National People's Congress (NPC) and the top political advisory body, CPPCC, will conduct the week-long meetings.
