Cairo: An extraordinary Arab meeting opened at the Arab League in Egypt on Wednesday to discuss a renewed Israeli military assault on the Gaza Strip. The meeting is held upon a Palestinian request at the level of permanent delegates to the pan-Arab body, according to an Anadolu reporter.

According to Anadolu Agency, Palestinian delegate Muhannad Al-Aklouk expressed strong condemnation of the resumption of the Israeli aggression, citing concerns of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and a blatant disregard for international law, humanity, and ceasefire initiatives. Al-Aklouk highlighted that Israel continues to cause destruction in the occupied West Bank as part of its efforts to annex a significant portion of the territory, estimated to be between 60-80%.

The Palestinian envoy emphasized that Israel's actions are not merely a threat but an assault on Arab national security. He urged Arab countries to take decisive actions, including imposing sanctions on Israel, pursuing international prosecution, enforcing an economic boycott, banning Israeli flights over Arab airspace, and seeking to suspend Israel's memberships in international organizations.

The recent escalation in violence has resulted in at least 436 deaths and over 670 injuries in Gaza due to renewed Israeli airstrikes since Tuesday, which shattered a ceasefire agreement that had been in place since January. Since October 2023, nearly 50,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives, and over 112,000 have been injured in the Israeli military campaign on Gaza.

The situation has drawn significant international attention, particularly after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave.
