Khartoum:Sudanese authorities have accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of conducting drone attacks on service facilities and fuel stations in two cities within North Kordofan state. The accusations were made on Friday, with the attacks reportedly taking place in Al-Rahad and Umm Rawaba on Thursday and Friday.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the state government issued a statement labeling these actions as "criminal conduct aimed at terrorizing citizens, undermining their security and stability, and depriving them of basic services." The statement did not specify any casualties or material damage. The government further accused the RSF of targeting unarmed civilians after failing to confront the Sudanese army on the battlefield.
The Sudanese government described the attacks on fuel stations and service facilities as "a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law," urging the international community and human rights organizations to condemn these actions and designate the RSF as a "terrorist organization."
The Sudanese army has recently made progress in North Kordofan, reclaiming several areas following confrontations with the RSF. However, field reports indicate that some areas, including Umm Badr and Jabra al-Sheikh, remain under RSF control. The Kordofan region, encompassing North, West, and South Kordofan, has seen ongoing conflict between the army and the RSF since October 25 of the previous year.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF began in April 2023 due to disputes over the integration of the paramilitary group into the military. This ongoing war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 13 million people, contributing to one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
