Beijing: Achieving a ceasefire in the Ukraine war is described as 'a necessary step towards peace,' China stated in response to a phone call between the US and Russia's presidents.

According to Anadolu Agency, China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasized China's consistent stance of resolving the crisis through dialogue and negotiation. This response followed a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, where an "immediate" ceasefire was reportedly agreed upon to halt attacks on energy and infrastructure amid Russia's ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Trump shared on Truth Social that the conversation, lasting over two hours, was "very good and productive," highlighting the limited ceasefire agreement. Although the agreement did not fully materialize during the discussion, Trump assured that negotiations would soon begin on a broader ceasefire proposal and peace deal to end the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed support for a 30-day ceasefire on energy infrastructure, announced by the Russian and US presidents following their phone dialogue.
