New York: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his approval following announcements by US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding an energy infrastructure ceasefire and upcoming negotiations to secure navigation in the Black Sea.

According to Anadolu Agency, Guterres acknowledged the agreement on a partial ceasefire aimed at halting attacks on energy targets. He also recognized the planned discussions to extend the ceasefire to cover the Black Sea as 'important confidence-building measures' that could aid in further de-escalation efforts.

The UN chief conveyed his optimism that these agreements could lay the groundwork for a 'just, comprehensive and lasting peace' that upholds Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of securing free and safe navigation in the Black Sea under international law, highlighting it as a crucial step towards stabilizing global food security and supply chains.

Guterres, who has consistently advocated for freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, remains actively involved in the ongoing implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the UN and Russia on global food security, as stated in the UN Deputy spokesman Farhan Haq's statement.
