Moscow: Russia on Monday accused neighboring Ukraine of striking eight of its energy facilities over the past day, in violation of a US-brokered agreement to halt such strikes for 30 days last month.

According to Anadolu Agency, on March 18, the US brokered two agreements between Russia and Ukraine - one to 'ensure safe navigation' in the Black Sea and another for a 30-day halt on attacks targeting energy infrastructure - which took effect following talks in Saudi Arabia. Despite the agreements, both sides have frequently accused each other of violating the pause on energy-related strikes.

A statement by the Russian Defense Ministry on Telegram reported that strikes by Kyiv late Saturday resulted in power outages in parts of the country's border region of Kursk and in Moscow-controlled parts of Ukraine's easternmost Luhansk region. The statement further claimed that subsequent attacks a day later also cut off power in parts of the border regions of Belgorod and Bryansk, as well as parts of Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region under Russian control.

The statement added, 'The Kyiv regime, in violation of the Russian-American agreements to cease strikes on energy facilities for 30 days from March 18, continues unilateral attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.' Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Russia's claims.
