Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Kremlin to deliberate on the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, as well as Russian-American consultations concerning Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi shared insights about the current status of the indirect negotiations with Putin and consulted on the matter. Discussions also included Russian-American negotiations on Ukraine and other issues, with Araghchi noting that their Russian counterparts provided essential information. During the meeting, Araghchi delivered a message from Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, to Putin.

Upon his arrival in Moscow, Araghchi expressed his intention to engage with Russian officials regarding the nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington. He is scheduled for further discussions with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on April 18.

Previously, indirect talks between U.S. Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Araghchi took place on April 12 in Oman. Both parties described these discussions as 'constructive,' with Araghchi extending gratitude to Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi for facilitating the dialogue. The next round of negotiations is set to occur in Rome on April 19.

The meeting between Putin and Araghchi precedes the second round of US-Iran talks in Rome this weekend. The initial discussions in Oman, focused on Tehran's nuclear program, were positively received by both sides. Notably, Russia remains one of the original signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, from which former US President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018.
