Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that it is "good to see that the world knows we are serious" about addressing trade imbalances with other countries, claiming that world leaders and business executives have been requesting relief from tariffs since they were announced earlier this month.
According to Anadolu Agency, in a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump mentioned that his April 2 declaration of 'Liberation Day'-which introduced reciprocal tariffs on countries he accuses of unfair trade practices-has prompted outreach from foreign governments and corporate leaders.
Trump emphasized the need to correct what he described as "decades of abuse" and stressed the importance of rebuilding the nation's wealth and establishing true reciprocity in trade relations. Over recent weeks, Trump's announcements of various tariff policies, along with his shifting statements, have sparked concerns about potential global economic instability.
