Moscow: The Kremlin announced that Russia is prepared to provide military assistance to North Korea under a strategic partnership agreement signed between the two nations late last year. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed journalists on Monday about the existing agreement, stating that both parties have committed to offering significant assistance to each other if necessary.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov highlighted the effectiveness of the strategic partnership agreement, citing the participation of North Korean soldiers in Russia's efforts to regain control over the border region of Kursk. This partnership was formalized in November of the previous year. Furthermore, Peskov mentioned that Russia is awaiting a signal from Ukraine regarding the resumption of direct talks, although no action has been observed so far.

Peskov dismissed any ongoing discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump but noted that talks could be arranged swiftly if required. Responding to Ukraine's claim of its presence in Russia's border region of Kursk, Peskov urged focus on President Putin's statements. He reiterated Moscow's willingness to start negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions.

On Saturday, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, announced that Russia had regained control of the Kursk region, acknowledging the assistance of North Korean soldiers in the military operations. This marked the first official confirmation of North Korea's involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022. However, Ukraine's General Staff refuted Gerasimov's statement, asserting that Kyiv's defensive operations continue in the region, although the operational situation remains challenging.
