Kyiv: Kyiv has asserted that Moscow must stop hostilities in Ukraine 'immediately' if it seeks peace, following Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of a three-day unilateral ceasefire.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized on X that if Russia genuinely desires peace, it should cease fire without delay. Sybiha questioned the need to wait until May 8th, suggesting that the ceasefire could start immediately and continue for at least 30 days to prove its sincerity. He reiterated Ukraine's readiness to support a 'lasting, durable, and full' ceasefire, a proposal consistently put forward by Kyiv.

Earlier, President Putin declared a unilateral ceasefire in Ukraine from midnight on May 7-8 to midnight on May 10-11. The ceasefire coincides with Russia's celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, a holiday commemorating Nazi Germany's surrender during World War II, known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War.
