Seoul: South Korea's acting president has urged security-related ministers to maintain a "watertight readiness" in response to the strengthening military ties between North Korea and Russia, as reported on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Han Duck-soo emphasized the increasing closeness between North Korea and Russia, highlighting the development of advanced weapons systems targeting South Korea. He noted that these developments, coupled with the looming threat of cyber-attacks, pose significant security challenges to the government, businesses, and citizens.

Seoul has consistently criticized North Korea for its collaboration with Russia, particularly regarding the deployment of troops in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This alliance has been a source of concern for South Korean officials, who view it as a direct threat to regional stability.

In light of public anxiety over the influence of US President Donald Trump's administration on South Korea's security, Han underscored the importance of prioritizing national interests. He called for strategic engagement with Washington to adapt to the evolving global landscape, ensuring that South Korea's security remains uncompromised.
