Beirut: An Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle on a road in the Kfar Rumman district of Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others. This incident, reported by Lebanon's Health Ministry, marks a new violation of the existing ceasefire agreement. According to Anadolu Agency, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) earlier reported that the attack occurred on Universities Road between Kfar Rumman and Nabatieh. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has expressed concern about the escalating tensions in the region, noting in a recent bulletin that while southern Lebanon has witnessed relative calm, stability remains uncertain. UNIFIL has also voiced concern regarding ongoing violations of Resolution 1701, which includes the presence of Israeli forces in Lebanon and the discovery of weapons caches by peacekeepers. The resolution, adopted by the UN Security Council on August 11, 2006, called for a complete cessation of hostilities b etween Lebanon and Israel and the establishment of a weapons-free zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River, excluding the Lebanese army and UNIFIL. A fragile ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon since November, concluding months of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah, which escalated into a full-scale conflict in September. Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the truce, resulting in the deaths of nearly 200 people and injuries to approximately 500. Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26 under the ceasefire deal, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. It still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
