San Francisco: US-based firm OpenAI's ChatGPT has emerged as the fifth-most visited website in the world as of April, as per data from similarweb.com compiled by Anadolu.
According to Anadolu Agency, ChatGPT faced significant competition earlier this year with the introduction of DeepSeek, a completely free and open-source Chinese AI chatbot. Despite these challenges, ChatGPT managed to reclaim a spot among the top five most visited websites last month.
Dominating the list, Google led with 81.31 billion monthly users, followed by YouTube at 28.68 billion, Facebook with 11.56 billion, and Instagram with 6.17 billion users.
Global creative agency We Are Social's 2024 data highlights ChatGPT's significant rise in web traffic last year, jumping from ninth to fifth place among the most-visited websites. Google, YouTube, and Facebook retained their positions in the top three.
In the AI tool category, ChatGPT maintained its lead with 4.7 billion monthly visitors in April, according to AITools data. This category comprises all AI-focused websites, including Canva, a graphic design application, which ranked second with 887 million monthly visits.
Google Translate secured the third spot with 595 million monthly users. DeepSeek, whose affordable performance attracted AI tool users, was fourth, followed by Character.AI with 226 million visitors, JanitorAI with 200 million, and Perplexity with 133 million monthly visits.
Google's Gemini faced a decline, securing the eighth position with 118 million visits after losing over 9% of its traffic to DeepSeek in January. Remove.bg and Claude rounded out the top ten with 112 million and 105 million monthly visits, respectively.
