British Economic Growth Exceeds Expectations in First Quarter

London: The British economy demonstrated robust performance in the first quarter of 2025, recording a 0.7% growth quarter-on-quarter and surpassing market expectations of 0.6%.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported a yearly economic expansion of 1.3%, exceeding the anticipated 1.2% growth. The ONS highlighted that the growth in the first quarter was primarily driven by a 0.7% increase in the services sector, with production also witnessing a 1.1% rise. However, the construction sector showed no growth during this period.

In terms of expenditures, the growth was propelled by increases in gross fixed capital formation, net trade, and household consumption. Real household expenditures rose by 0.2% quarter-on-quarter and 0.7% on an annual basis, indicating a steady increase in consumer spending.

On a monthly basis, the UK's economy saw a 0.2% growth in March, marking a continuation of the positive trend. This follows a 0.1% growth in the fourth quarter of the previous year and no growth in the third quarter on a quarterly basis.
