Paris: France on Wednesday reaffirmed its "firm opposition" to any attempt at annexation in the West Bank and Gaza. "We are firmly opposed to any attempt at annexation, whether in the West Bank or Gaza," French Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine stated at a weekly press briefing.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lemoine described the situation in Gaza as "absolutely appalling," emphasizing that the humanitarian assistance remains "insufficient." He highlighted the dire circumstances faced by the population in Gaza, urging for humanitarian aid to be allowed freely and massively due to their extreme deprivation.

Lemoine also mentioned France's stance on revisiting the Association Agreement between Israel and the European Union. He pointed out that the agreement involves various measures concerning political dialogue, cooperation, and commercial aspects. Discussions are ongoing to review this association agreement, and France is committed to pursuing this line of action.

The Israeli army has continued its offensive against Gaza since October 2023, ignoring international calls for a ceasefire. This has resulted in the deaths of over 54,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. The International Criminal Court had issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

In addition, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice regarding its actions against civilians in the enclave.
