Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Wednesday that he met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to discuss cooperation between the nations. He expressed gratitude to Germany for its ongoing defense aid and humanitarian support, which has been especially vital for the Chernihiv region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy praised Germany's role in military support and air defense deliveries, stating that these efforts have been critical in saving lives during the ongoing conflict. He highlighted Germany's leadership within Europe as pivotal to these contributions.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of Germany's involvement in regional support. He mentioned that the patronage of the German President over the Chernihiv region has been particularly meaningful. This support has enabled the equipping of four shelters in communities across the region, demonstrating Germany's commitment to humanitarian aid. The Ukrainian president expressed his appreciation for all forms of assistance and acknowledged Germany's willingness to continue supporting Ukraine.

In addition to his meeting with President Steinmeier, Zelenskyy also met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. During their discussions, new agreements were reached on joint defense production. These agreements include investments in weapons manufacturing and the development of drone systems, further solidifying the defense partnership between Ukraine and Germany.

Zelenskyy's visit is part of broader diplomatic efforts to sustain international support amid Ukraine's ongoing conflict with Russia.
