Manila: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued a directive for all ranking executives of Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) to resign, a move announced just six days following his request for Cabinet secretaries to step down. The order affects non-ex-officio chairpersons, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and all appointed directors, trustees, and members of GOCC governing boards, who have been instructed to "immediately submit their respective courtesy resignations to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary," as stated in a notice from the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG). This notice, dated Monday, was made public on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decision aligns with President Marcos Jr.'s intention to recalibrate and realign his administration's policies and priorities with the expectations of the people. Despite the resignation request, the affected officers are expected to continue their duties "subject to any further directives that the Office of the President may deem proper" until their resignations are confirmed.

The President referenced the poor performance of government-backed candidates in the May 12 midterm elections as a catalyst for his Cabinet secretaries' resignations. During these elections, only six senatorial candidates supported by Marcos were elected to the Senate, which fell short of anticipated outcomes.
