Moscow: Russia’s response to Ukraine’s strikes on military airfields will be determined by the armed forces, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced, following a phone discussion between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump regarding the attack.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov stated that any response will be made “as and when our military deems appropriate,” highlighting that decisions will rely on military judgment. Additionally, he emphasized Moscow’s preference for stronger international condemnation of what it describes as Kyiv’s “terrorist attacks.”

Ukraine initiated an unexpected assault on June 1, targeting Russian airbases, specifically focusing on long-range bombers. Peskov accused Ukrainian authorities of directly ordering attacks in Russia’s Kursk and Bryansk regions, including a train explosion, labeling it as “terrorism at the state level.”

Despite these accusations, Peskov noted that Putin remains supportive of maintaining dialogue with Kyiv. He described the conversation between Putin and Trump as constructive and necessary, stressing the importance of a potential face-to-face meeting, which would require thorough preparation.

Trump had remarked on Wednesday that “President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
