New York: The UN Security Council is set to convene an emergency session at 1900GMT on Sunday in response to recent US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. This meeting follows a formal request from Tehran, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's UN delegation submitted a letter late Saturday, urging immediate action under the UN Charter to address the US attacks on three nuclear sites. These sites were targeted with bunker-buster bombs and cruise missiles, prompting Iran to demand accountability for what they term "heinous crimes."

Iran's UN Permanent Representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, emphasized the grave consequences of the United States' actions for international peace and security. He called for the Security Council to "condemn it in the strongest possible terms" and take necessary measures under its Charter responsibilities.

The US reportedly targeted Iran's Fordo facility using six bunker-buster bombs deployed by B-2 stealth bombers, while Natanz and Isfahan facilities were hit by submarine-launched cruise missiles. The upcoming session will address Iran's characterization of these actions as a "blatant and unlawful act of aggression."

Tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv have been escalating since June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian sites, including military and nuclear facilities. Iran responded with retaliatory strikes, resulting in significant casualties. Israeli authorities report at least 25 deaths and hundreds of injuries due to Iranian missile attacks. Meanwhile, the Iranian Health Ministry states that 430 people have been killed and over 3,500 wounded in the ongoing Israeli assault.
