Ankara: Qatar has condemned Iran's missile strike on the US' Al Udeid Air Base, situated on its territory, labeling the attack as a 'blatant violation' of its sovereignty and airspace.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Gulf state announced its intention to respond in accordance with international law, as stated by a Foreign Ministry spokesperson on X. The missile attack by Iran was reportedly in retaliation for US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Majed al-Ansari, a spokesperson, expressed Qatar's 'strong condemnation of the attack on Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,' terming it a 'flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.'

He emphasized that 'Qatar reserves the right to respond proportionately and directly to this blatant aggression, in accordance with international law.' Al Ansari noted that Qatari air defense systems successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles and mentioned that the base had been evacuated earlier as part of precautionary protocols amidst rising regional tensions.

Furthermore, all necessary measures were undertaken to ensure the safety of personnel at the facility, which includes Qatari armed forces, allied troops, and others stationed there. Al Ansari confirmed there were no casualties resulting from the attack.
