Kyiv: Ukraine announced on Monday that at least 10 individuals were killed and more than 40 others were injured following an overnight Russian airstrike on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
According to Anadolu Agency, Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, revealed on Telegram that rescuers had recovered the body of the ninth victim of the enemy strike, and search operations are ongoing. As of 2:30 p.m. local time, authorities reported 33 injuries, with 25 occurring in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported extensive damage to a five-story building in the district as a result of the overnight strike. Klitschko also mentioned that the blast wave had damaged apartments in a nearby 25-story residential building. Additional damage was recorded in non-residential premises and private residential buildings across Kyiv's Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Podilskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the attack, stating that after previous strikes on Iran's nuclear program facilities, Moscow had condemned such actions. However, he noted that Moscow remains silent following the Russian army's strike using Russian-Iranian Shahed drones and missiles against civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other locations. Zelenskyy also mentioned a casualty in the city of Bila Tserkva following a drone strike on a hospital, suggesting that ballistic weapons from North Korea may have been used in the attack on the capital.
Acting Kyiv Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported on Telegram that eight people were injured in the strike on Bila Tserkva. Ukraine's Air Force claimed on Telegram that the country's air defenses intercepted 146 out of 352 drones launched by Russia and shot down 12 out of 16 missiles fired during the overnight attack. They stated that Kyiv was the primary target of the assault.
In a subsequent statement, the Russian Defense Ministry asserted that it had conducted a series of strikes on Ukraine's military-industrial complex in the Kyiv region, as well as targeting infrastructure of a military airfield and a mine and torpedo arsenal belonging to the Ukrainian Navy.
