Stockholm: Hundreds of people gathered Saturday in Sweden's capital Stockholm to protest Israel's ongoing attacks on Gaza. The demonstrators convened in the Odenplan district of the capital and marched toward the Swedish parliament, voicing strong opposition to Israel's military actions.
According to Anadolu Agency, the protesters chanted slogans such as "Murderer Israel, get out of Palestine," "Murderer Israel, get out of Gaza," and demanded an "Immediate and unconditional ceasefire." Carrying Palestinian flags, they urgently called for an end to what they described as genocide in Gaza.
Mattias Gardell, a professor at Uppsala University, criticized the Swedish government for its silence over the events in Gaza. Speaking to Anadolu, Gardell stressed that the government must take action against what he termed as genocide by Israel against Palestinians. He stated, "We see how the far-right Israeli government is driving Palestinians to death camps, that is, concentration camps."
Gardell further accused Israel of misusing emergency and humanitarian aid intended for Palestinians as a trap to harm more people. He urged the Swedish government to stand against what he described as Israel's actions, in line with international law and liberal democratic values. Gardell also demanded that Sweden cease arms sales to Israel, boycott Israeli companies involved in these actions, and terminate any cooperation with them.
He concluded by calling for those responsible for the alleged genocide in Palestine to be prosecuted at The Hague.
Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli military has maintained a deadly offensive on Gaza since October, resulting in the deaths of more than 56,400 Palestinians, many of whom are women and children, according to Gaza health officials.
In a significant development, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is confronting a genocide case at the International Court of Justice regarding its actions in the enclave.
