Ankara: Trkiye will host the 2026 NATO leaders summit in its capital, Ankara, and will prepare the ground for "very important" decisions to be taken, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan made this announcement in a speech following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in a short period as part of the terror-free Trkiye process, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure national security.

Erdogan also addressed concerns about potential sabotage attempts from certain elements within the country and the PKK terror group. He emphasized that the state remains vigilant and will not be trapped by such efforts.

The PKK has been engaged in a 40-year-long terror campaign against Trkiye, resulting in the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. It is recognized as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the United States, and the European Union. The YPG/PYD, the PKK's Syrian offshoot, is also implicated in this conflict. In February, jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan called for the dissolution of the PKK and its affiliated groups, urging an end to the violent campaign.
